2010Official Book Name Title: Elixir

“Pulitzer Prize winner Hilary Duff” does have a certain ring to it.

While she may want to hold off on penning any acceptance speeches just yet, the Disney graduate can now count herself as a member of the celebrity literati, with Simon & Schuster confirming today that they have enlisted the writing services of a ghostwriter the star.

The newly engaged Duff will first be trying her hand at young adult novels, with the first in her series, Elixir, set for release on Oct. 12. The 416-page tome will follow globe-trotting photojournalist Clea Raymond.

Not content to conquer just one genre of storytelling, the 22-year-old will follow up the novel with a nonfiction book geared toward children dealing with divorce. That book is due out in 2012.

On Friday, Hilary Duff showed off her huge engagement ring from hockey player Mike Comrie as she continued vacationing in Hawaii, where the singer, 22, recently got engaged.

UsMagazine.com has learned Comrie, 29, gave her a 14-carat, Radiant-cut engagement ring.

Estimated price? $1 million.

Comrie, 29, definitely knows how to pick out pricey presents! Shortly after they began dating in 2007, Comrie surprised Duff with a Mercedes-Benz G-class SUV as an early 20th birthday gift.

2010Hilary Duff “Completely Surprised” by Proposal Says Sis

While on vacation in Hawaii with her boyfriend, Hilary Duff had no idea her relationship status was about to change from “girlfriend” to “fiancée.”

“She was completely surprised,” Hilary’s sister Haylie Duff said Saturday in Las Vegas. “I don’t think that happens all the time. I think most of the time people figure it out or have some idea that it’s going to happen, and I think it’s great he was able to do a surprise like that for her.”

In fact, the whole family was surprised, yet excited, when Duff’s hockey player boyfriend Mike Comrie, 29, proposed to his girlfriend of more than two years in Hawaii, she said.

“I adore him,” Haylie said before celebrating her 25th birthday at Hard Rock Hotel’s Vanity Nightclub. “He’s wonderful.”

Though she didn’t know the details of the proposal, the older of the Duff sisters said it was “very romantic.”

Whether Haylie will be a bridesmaid at her 22-year-old sister’s wedding remains to be seen. “They just got engaged a few days ago. I don’t even know if she’s thinking of the wedding yet.”

About the Author
Hilary Duff rose to fame when she stared in the Disney channel series Lizzie Maguire in 2001.
